Take a trip to the heartland of Alentejo on this cultural and historical private tour of Evora with a winery visit, leaving from Lisbon. Alentejo is the go-to winery spot in southern Portugal and is a land where culture and tradition go hand in hand. It is from here that the first exported Portuguese wines went to Rome. Alentejo wines strong aromatic exuberance, round and smooth, with a unique ability to be drunk while young but knowing how to age with distinction. You will enjoy a guided tour of a prestigious Alentejo winery including the estate, wine cellars and a wine tasting session. Next visit Arriaolos: the village of rugs and the circular castle. This ancient Alentejo village is home to the renowned Arriaolos Carpets, which are full of Portuguese history and embroidered by hand. The circular castle of Paço dos Alcaides has amazing views over the Alentejo landscape. A delight to wander around and peruse local handcrafted rugs. Discover Evora´s cultural ties and history as you visit the significant monuments, such as the Cathedral of Evora, the Roman Temple of Diana and the Chapel of Bones. Evora was considered a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1986 and is a museum-city with roots dating back to Roman times. In the 16th century it was Portugal’s golden age and all kings and queens had residences here. Also Evora is a beautiful city just to walk around and admire the many buildings typical to Evora such as little white houses with tiles and balconies. Best tour guide ever. "We had been to Lisbon a couple of years ago but on a cruise. We had a guide for that visit and he was good until we met Carlos on our 2nd trip to Lisbon. Carlos is a GREAT guide. He was punctual and picked us up in a nice clean car. He also provided ample water and wifi as well. Carlos was friendly and full of information. He took us to all the highlights of Evora. The Almendres rocks was an interesting comparison to the Hedgestone though you can walk right up to the rocks. Carlos took us to a restaurant that served authentic Portuguese food and even stayed and recommended what to order. We thoroughly enjoyed lunch in Evora. It was a long and full day but one that we will remember for a long time to come. Carlos set the standard for what a great tour guide should be and I would give him a perfect 10!"
