comporta: beach, nature & relaxation

The unspoilt region of Comporta boasts endless beaches, wild sand dunes, scattered cork trees and rice fields. Work in traditional ways still flourishes here with local rice farmers, fisherman and salt makers. tomar: medieval knights templar

Journey back in time and discover the history of the Knights Templar Order in Portugal on this one day private tour. This tour includes a Certified Tour Guide, who will enter all monuments with you. Tomar was established as the religious centre for the Knights Templar by the Grand Master Gualdim Pais in 1160. It is a charming and unique town, located in the center of the country, and surrounded by forests, fields, and other charming rural towns. It is exceptionally pretty, with beautiful tiled pavements, quaint squares, narrow cobbled walkways and beautiful parks and gardens. Here you will eat in a Medieval Tavern, explore the streets of the city and discover more history of the Knights Templar including the Igreja de São João Baptista: a 15th century church is known for its exuberant sculpture and intricate stonework. You will end the tour at the imposing Order of Christ and the awesome and vast complex of Convent of Christ. Both the castle and convent were the headquarters of the Knights Templar until 1314 and of the Order of Christ from 1357 onwards. Nowadays, the building itself can be considered a museum of the different architectural styles of Portuguese history: Romanic, Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance.

alentejo: hilltop villages, wine & cork trees

Monsaraz is a charming, hilltop village with a fortified medieval castle at the south of the village, at the highest point. Made of lime and schist you can hear the echoes of the past in the streets on this one day tour. The village holds many stories of the Knights Templar and it´s brave people. Wander the medieval streets, explore the castle and peruse the beautiful artisan shops. A perfect place to visit in the morning as the village is awakening. Admire the beautiful surrounding countryside and amazing views over the Alqueva Dam; a huge mass of water which is actually man-made. A short drive from Monsaraz is the village of São Pedro do Corval, known as Portugal´s largest pottery centre with more than 20 pottery workshops. Here you can enjoy your own ceramics workshop plus have time to wander through all the little stores. Finally, explore the city of Evora´s and learn of its cultural ties and history as you visit the significant monuments, such as the Cathedral of Evora, the Roman Temple of Diana and the Chapel of Bones. Evora was is a museum-city with roots dating back to Roman times. In the 16th century it was Portugal’s golden age and all kings and queens had residences here.  

arrabida: wine, nature & hidden beaches

Arrabida is a protected natural park, just 30 minutes from Lisbon and is a surprise to all those who visit on this one day tour. This beautiful region expands over the southern Setubal peninsular and has towering cliffs, picturesque beaches and ancient ruins dotted amongst the dense mountain vegetation. Founded in 1834 the winery you will visit continues to operate with undiminished passion by the same family. sintra: magical, historical & intriguing

It is one of the best preserved in Europe. Tourism has not affected the village (although it obviously gets pretty busy in the summer months) and there are still around 2,000 residents living here! Through a bustling street, lined with shops selling crafts and gift items, is the main street of Obidos, Rua Direita. It is here you can taste local speciality ´Ginja de Óbidos´- a bitter cherry liquor. This street, which is really the only main street in Obidos, leads to the Igreja de Santa Maria and Praca de Santa Maria. The beautiful religious building is the main church of Obidos and is positioned in a quaint, picturesque square. The entire village is classed as a national monument and being only one hour from Lisbon makes for a perfect day trip.
